More Information:

There's a lot of information online that can help with understanding and caring for your air plant.

First, you should know the air plant is your necklace or sculpture belongs to the genus Tillandsia (which contains various air plants) and the species is Tillandsia Ionantha with the common name "Sky Plant". If you do a quick search of this name you can easily find all sorts of information.

These plants have grown in popularity recently and are often used in decor because of their unique characteristics. Care instructions on them vary, however, because watering largely depends on humidity. They thrive in humidity - but do not do well with being actually wet. For this reason I recommend misting the air plant regularly. The air plants do need to be watered, but make sure not to over water or let them collect moisture.

Air plants have a white fuzzy layer on their leaves called trichomes. They may look concerning, but it's through these that the air plants absorb nutrients from the air. Be careful not to over water your plant as it may appear to be a brighter green when wet. An air plant cannot recover if it begins to rot from over watering. If the air plant is watered too little its leaves will be browner, crispier, and not well shaped.

It's important to chose the water you give to your plant carefully. Naturally sourced of water such as spring water, well water, or even pond, river, or rain water are great for your plant. Distilled water is not a great source of nutrients and minerals for your plant, so it's better to use something that still has its natural minerals. Tap or municipal water can contain chlorine or fluoride which is harmful to the plant. Typically, if this water is allowed to sit in open air for at least 4 hours these chemicals will evaporate. For this reason tap water may not be a practical or ideal water source for your plant. Since air plants don't need to be water very often I just keep a jug of bottled spring water on hand.

In addition to making sure your air plant is properly watered, has a good light source, and is protected from harmful chemicals, you can keep it healthy and encourage flowering by using air plant or certain orchid fertilizers.
